This has been a long time coming.

When blogstatic first launched in April of 2021 it was a simple Markdown app that helped writers publish real static blogs serving actual physical files straight from the server without any roundtrips to the database — hence the brand name "blog" and "static".

As blogstatic progressed with more features, the initial "static file" concept became a burden. The gains of serving files from the server compared to serving cached blogs were negligent and sometimes even detrimental to the overall delivery and production of blogstatic.

Doing away with the static part and searching for a new name

At one point around year 1, the hard decision was made to switch from serving static files to serving cached blogs instead.

Since then I've always felt like the brand name wasn't entirely true, even though no one complained.

A few times I sat down and researched for a name that would be a good fit, but regardless of how hard I worked, I couldn't pick one name over another — especially since none of the names I would come up with made sense.

I wanted the name to be super descriptive of what the product actually is and something clients could easily remember and not wonder about what it means.

BlogMaker Symbol

BlogMaker encapsulates this perfectly: conceptually simple yet structurally solid, symbolizing consistency. The symbol is essentially an 'M' resting atop a base to form a 'B.' The upward-pointing outer triangles imply growth and progress, while the two triangles in the negative space subtly resemble eyes, evoking a sense of invitation.

What else is changing?

Besides the brand name a few other things are changing.

Price

I know. There's really no easy way to say this.

Yearly "per blog" prices are going away.

There will be a single monthly recurring payment through which unlimited blogs can be created.

Note: Pricing on existing blogs will not change!

Features

The entire feature set will be available to all.

New features will be geared more towards SEO, AI, API, and potentially expanding on the headless aspect of BlogMaker through which developers can serve on their end the content they (or their clients) create.

One thing that will be going away is "Views", which is redundant, since every blog out–of–the–box is equipped with the amazing privacy–first Plausible Analytics.

Customer Base

BlogMaker will focus on serving clients with business intentions — those using it for SEO purposes, content marketing, or simply running a blog with updates for their business. Just as we use it run our several blogs: Blog, Resources, and Blogging Success.

I understand that this initially alienates individuals who want to use blogstatic for their personal blogging or journaling, but I'm currently thinking of ways to continue serving this segment as well through another venue.

Note: Again, nothing will change for your current personal blog. Features and pricing will remain the same.

When is this change coming?

The launch of the new brand and the domain switching will happen very soon.

Nothing will change on your end as far as the editor area or your blogs are concerned.

When trying to access blogstatic, you'll be redirected automaticallyto the new BlogMaker website and that'll be that.
